 Potawatomi Trail of Death - Entries from the diary of Jesse C. Douglas, Enrolling Agent under General Tipton, 20th Sept. 1838:

“Traveled 10 mi. to Davis’ Point (Illinois). Most volunteers discharged, 16 retained. Gen. Tipton left, Wm. Polke is now in charge.”
